Teresa is persuaded by her parents to marry Nicolau. He is great deal older, but in a position to solve the family’s financial problems. Without prior knowledge, Teresa finds herself subjected to a strange marital relationship, due to her husband’s morbid obsessions. When she becomes widowed, she inherits a fortune and establishes relations with Rafael, a man much younger than herself. Little by little she begins acquiring the personality of her dead husband, until she finally arrives at a state of absolute identification with him.
